BlackBerrys To Harness The Power Of E-Trade For Real-Time Trading

Posted by Eric Zeman, Jun 5, 2008 09:35 AM

If you dabble in stocks, have an E-Trade account, and a BlackBerry, this news is for you. Today, E-Trade and Research In Motion announced E-Trade Mobile Pro, new software that will allow investors to receive real-time quotes and make investments directly from their BlackBerrys.

Most busy professionals have little or no time during the workday to do more than glance at their investment portfolio, let alone make active trades. Road warriors, often dashing from appointment to appointment, can have even less time as they attempt to make every minute on the road count. That can leave your investments on the back burner. Even the back burner, though, is capable of burning you if ignored. Same goes for your investments. Miss one important news report, or quarterly report, and a stock can tank, taking your portfolio with it. E-Trade and Research In Motion are hoping to help prevent that.

E-Trade Mobile Pro gives E-Trade customers and BlackBerry owners many of the same interface, security, trading, and banking features available on their desktops with the added capability and convenience of accessing real-time information and transacting any time, anywhere, from their smartphones.

In a prepared statement, Michael Curcio, managing director of E-Trade Securities, said, "E-Trade customers are always on the go, and are always looking for new ways to leverage technology in order to achieve their financial goals. With Mobile Pro, customers have real-time access to their accounts and the information that can move markets."

The new software provides the following features: Free real-time streaming stock and options quotes; the ability to trade equities and options, including certain conditional orders; brokerage and bank account QuickTransfers, including those from outside financial institutions; live watchlists and portfolios; CompleteView of all E-Trade accounts on one screen; and secure transactions backed by E-Trade's Complete Protection Guarantee.

According to RIM and E-Trade, the software will be available to all E-Trade customers for free. The software will work with the Pearl, Curve, 8800 Series, and any RIM device using OS version 4.1 or higher.

For existing E-Trade customers, this is a nice added feature to the online trading company's tools. Being able to spend a few moments reviewing your portfolio when on the road, or even in the office, can make a real difference in your personal bottom line, depending on how active a trader you are.
