Clickability Wins Award As Best CMS
The Clickability On-Demand Web Content Management Platform recently won the 2008 CODiE Award for Best Content Management Solution. While some awards don't carry too much weight, the CODiE award submissions are judged by industry peers and members of the SIIA, which means there's no monkey business with the ballot box. While some awards don't carry too much weight, the CODiE award submissions are judged by industry peers and members of the SIIA, which means there's no monkey business with the ballot box. This win for Clickability is a nice feather in its cap.The award, which is given by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), was announced on May 20.
Clickability has been discussed in this blog before and the impressions still hold true -- it's a refined, frequently upgraded system with a simple but powerful content creation and management interface. It's also somewhat unique for a powerful CMS in that it's a fully hosted solution. This software as a service (SaaS) model means that they take a lot of the technical heavy lifting out of the picture -- customers don't need to worry about setting up their own servers, dealing with software updates, etc. For an organization with a small to nonexistent in-house IT staff, that's a big differentiator.

Clickability comes in Express, Professional, and Enterprise editions, and the licensing is fairly typical for a software as a service -- there's a one-time setup fee, a monthly service fee (with included seat licenses), and a per-seat charge for anything beyond what's included. There's also a charge for the number of individual sites hosted as well as number of pages served, so it can end up being a pricey solution. However, this could be balanced out by not having to buy hardware and or needing to deal with running the system yourself.
For a quick introduction to the interface and the system capabilities, you can check out the demo video here. It's less than 10 minutes long, but will give you a good overview of what they have to offer. CMSWatch.com also has a good overview/review of the platform here.
Clickability has some heavy hitters in its client lineup -- one standout is Gray Television, which has more than 30 television stations and publishes some 2,000 pieces of content a week. It's also the new CMS behind Philly.com, the online home of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News. The site relaunched in May 2008 with a much-improved interface, aided presumably by the flexibility of the Clickability tools. CNN and the Wall Street Journal also use some Clickability tools, but not as the core CMS for their respective sites.
In the interest of sharing the spotlight a bit, I also wanted to mention that Attributor, Ingeniux CMS 6, MarkLogic Server 3.2, and Nstein Online Publishing Solutions were the other 2008 CODiE finalists for Best Content Management Solution. The full list of the finalists and additional information on each can be found here, and you can see the full list of the 2008 CODiE Winners, across all categories, here.
