Google Offers $10,000 To Winner Of Code Competition

For the developer or developers who come up with the best solution to a set of coding challenges, the grand prize will be $10,000. Registration for this year's Code Jam is now open. If you think you've got the right stuff, be sure to sign up.

According to a press release, "Google Code Jam is an incredible opportunity for the most talented computer scientists in the world to come together and compete on an international stage," said Vic Gundotra, VP of engineering. "Google is proud to support these coders as they take on some of the world's most challenging programming problems, and we're pleased to have the chance to introduce them to our research and offices around the world."

The qualification round will last for one month, concluding on July 17. After that, there will be rounds of semifinals before the final part of the competition takes place in November. Programmers will be able to use tools developed by Google's staffers and can use any language to program. The top 500 contestants will win a trip to the semifinal match at Google's Mountain View, Calif., offices.

The prize money isn't too shabby. First place nets $10,000, second place $5,000, third place $2,500, with fourth through 10th places receiving $1,500. Prize money also will be doled out to an additional 90 coders.

Google didn't say what the challenges will be yet.

Google recently announced the semifinalists of its Android developer challenge. Winners for that competition have yet to be determined.
