3G iPhone Round Up: Firmware 2.0.1, 24 States Sold Out
The fine folks over at The Boy Genius have taken to the technological equivalent of navel gazing (looking at its own Web server logs) to pass what it said was a slow news day. Much to its delight, it "noticed some interesting build numbers for the iPhone and iPhone 3G. It appears that AT&T and Apple are testing iPhone device software version 2.0.1, builds 5B101 (iPhone) and 5B103 (iPhone 3G). Although we are not certain of much more information than this little bit, we do know that testing began prior to the launch of device software 2.0 and the iPhone 3G on July 11th. We have also narrowed down the known test users to the San Francisco (40 mins from Cupertino) and Atlanta (HQ of AT&T Mobility) areas." A firmware update would be welcome. Both my first-generation iPhone and 3G iPhone have been crashing over the last few days. My first-generation iPhone rarely crashed before I updated the firmware to version 2.0. Now it crashes several times per day, both when using Apple applications and applications downloaded from the Apps Store. I've also had difficulty using the camera, which has been taking pictures at random moments. I am not alone. Let's hope the update becomes available sooner rather than later. Also, the 3G iPhone is selling out. Now, AT&T and Apple stores in 24 states are reporting no stock of the device. I walked past the local Apple Store today only to find a large sign posted at the front door which read: "Sorry, 3G iPhone is not available today." The same sign was at the AT&T store. According to Apple, new shipments arrive every day, but any new stock that is arriving isn't around long enough for the staff of the Apple Stores to bother removing the signs. My local Apple Store has been sold out since Sunday. « CA Launches New Records Management Software | Main | iPhone Free Software: Twitterific Puts Twitter In Your Pocket » |
