Xyleme last week announced the release of Xyleme LCMS 3.2, its flagship learning content management system. This update includes more than a dozen new features and is intended to improve ease-of-use for both content creators and end users. At a high-level, learning content management systems are designed to support the creation of training materials, online courses and other modules to support organizational education. This can range anywhere from creating a series of courses for a corporate university to delivering regulatory information to a small organization.

The main enhancements for Xyleme LCMS 3.2 come in three areas: improvements in course creation, simplification of capturing information from subject matter experts, and improvements in performance and security.

The course creation improvements come from Xyleme's new workflow, which supports collaboration from multiple contributors, as well as allowing course materials to be previewed throughout their creation cycle.

Getting valuable information out of a subject matter expert's brain and into course materials always been challenging, but the addition of the Xyleme Forms module is intended to simplify the process, reducing the learning curve and making the data capture process more efficient.

One of the key benefits of learning content management systems is that content can be created and then reused. Xyleme uses what it calls Reusability 2.0, a slick buzzword meaning that it supports the creation of content with the goal of leveraging it across multiple delivery formats -- self-paced learning, online courses, job aids, instructor led-classes, printed materials, etc. Another key concept of reusability in general is that changes should be able to be made in one place and then pushed automatically out to the appropriate locations.

Xyleme boasts an impressive stable of customers, including Cigna, Dunkin' Brands, JPMorgan, and others. For more information and a walk-through of the product, you can sign up for its monthly Webcast, which runs down the capabilities of the system as well as the new features in 3.2.
