Android Dream Pics?

Posted by Marin Perez, Sep 2, 2008 12:31 PM

If you managed to tear yourself away from the barbeque this weekend, you may have spotted these supposedly leaked photos that Engadget snagged of the first Android-powered handset. Reps from HTC and T-Mobile are not responding, but it does seem to match previous FCC documents, as well as leaked footage.

In keeping with Google's Android plans, the handset -- which will more than likely be called the Dream -- looks like it's designed for the casual market. There's a good-sized touch screen that flips out, Sidekick style. This reveals a Chiclets-like QWERTY keyboard that should work fine for texting or punching in Web sites.

It's important to note that these could very well be fake images, so I'll reserve judgment on the phone until it's in my hands. I do know that HTC has been on a roll lately, making some gorgeous, usable handsets like the Diamond and Touch Pro.

I also think the Android OS is picking up some much-needed buzz lately. I've spoken to some players in the mobile industry who have stated bluntly that it's going to fail. But, as more details on handsets leak out, and as Google unveiled details about the Android Market, as well as the potentially incredible applications, I'm officially excited about this thing.
