Well, it appears that Samsung will be taking the touch-screen goodness of the Omnia and combining it with the camera powers of the Innov8. The company appears to be readying an 8-megapixel touch-screen phone, and details have leaked out.

The phone, which is reportedly being called the M8800 with a code name of Pixon, looks darn pretty. According to GSM Arena, it will sport a 3.2-inch touch screen with 240-by-400 resolution. No word on what OS it will run -- probably a homegrown one -- but the camera should be the main draw.

The camera will have auto focus, face recognition that has smile detection and blink detection, as well as advanced shake reduction. The phone will have a GPS chip so you can geo-tag photos, and you should be able to record video up to 30 frames per second. Samsung also has set up a teaser Web site where you can view a few pictures of the phone.

I may be alone on this one, but I think 5 megapixels -- like in the Nokia N96 -- is more than enough for a phone camera. Besides, I still think most people like having a "good enough" camera on the phone, and will purchase a separate camera for their real photographic needs.

The Pixon should be an Office document viewer, virtual QWERTY keyboard, FM radio, Bluetooth, expandable memory for storing those large photo files, accelerometer, FM radio, DivX playback, and HSDPA connectivity for the mobile Web.

The lack of Wi-Fi's a bit of a bummer, and there's no word on what type of browser this will sport. It also looks like the phone will cost at least $800 when it's released later this year. No official word from Samsung yet, but the announcement should come sometime next week.
