HTC G1 Not On Sale At Wal-Mart After All

Remember how Wal-Mart advertised that it would sell the HTC G1 Android phone for $31 less than T-Mobile itself was charging? Turns out, T-Mobile didn't take kindly to that idea and Wal-Mart is charging the same price that T-Mobile is.

Remember how Wal-Mart advertised that it would sell the HTC G1 Android phone for $31 less than T-Mobile itself was charging? Turns out, T-Mobile didn't take kindly to that idea and Wal-Mart is charging the same price that T-Mobile is.So much for that hot discount. First Wal-Mart said it would offer the G1 for $148.88, about $31 cheaper than the G1 is available from T-Mobile, a couple of weeks ago. Then there was a delay. After several weeks have passed, the device has not shown up in the 550 stores that Wal-Mart initially claimed.

Right now, the G1 is available from the Wal-Mart Web site for the same $180 price tag that T-Mobile charges. According to Phandroid, a blog covering all things Android, it was able to reach a local Wal-Mart store. That store confirmed that the price was indeed $180 and that was a nationwide price point.

No one has explained why Wal-Mart isn't living up to its announcement, but since the cost is the same, you're better off going directly to a T-Mobile store to buy the G1.
