BlackBerry Storm Gets Updated

Posted by Marin Perez, Dec 5, 2008 03:06 PM

If you bought a BlackBerry Storm and were surprised at how crappy the software was, you may find some relief soon. Verizon Wireless is rolling out a much-needed firmware upgrade.

The 4.7.0.75 firmware update is available now with the desktop software manager, and Big Red is expected to shoot it out over the air later tonight. I've been putting the Storm though the wringer for the last week or so, and am happy this update is here because it desperately needs some better software.

According to the Boy Genius, the update does make the OS snappier, and more polished. If you've yet to get your hands on a Storm, know that the software definitely wasn't ready for prime time. The accelerometer would take forever to switch the orientation, and the lag was so bad in some cases that I wanted to chuck this thing out the window.

I was planning to give my full thoughts on the handset today, but I'll hold off until I install this update. In the meantime, feel free to read our official review of the BlackBerry Storm, and please let me know if there's anything specific you'd like me to include in my review (and yes, I'll try and work in an awkward basketball analogy).
