Google: AdWords Now Targeting The Apple iPhone And HTC G1

Posted by Eric Zeman, Dec 8, 2008 01:11 PM

If you're using Google's AdWords on your Web site, you're about to get a little bit more punch for your dollar. AdWord ads will now begin to appear on Web pages viewed by the Apple iPhone and HTC G1 Android phone.

Google announced the new campaign-level option for users of its AdWords advertisement product this morning. Any mobile device with a full HTML Web browser -- including the iPhone and G1 -- will display text and image ads as they would appear on the desktop.

Don't have a mobile landing page or mobile campaign set up? Not to worry. Google is taking care of that for you. Google says, "The ads will have many of the same benefits as our standard mobile ads, such as the delivery of mobile-specific calls-to-action and reaching mobile users that are searching with their phones more than ever."

Google also mentions that the ads already are being served to the iPhone and G1. I noticed this recently when I performed a search using my iPhone. A number of text ads were displayed next to the results.

If you're already running a mobile campaign, this new AdWords capability won't change anything about your campaign. This new service is in additional option, and gives advertisers the ability to "display ads exclusively on these mobile devices, create campaigns for them, and get separate performance reporting."

Not interested? Not a problem. Google says that you can opt out of the desktop ad program and stick to your regular mobile campaign.
