Aside from the writing I do here for InformationWeek, I have a personal blog covering music. I often live-blog from concerts, take pictures, and write up reviews of concerts directly from my phone. Thanks to a new tool in Blogger, I'll be able to geotag my posts so my readers will know exactly where the show took place.This is a great new feature for bloggers. More and more mobile devices can attach geographical information to the photos you shoot. Why not be able to attach geographical information to blog posts as well? This could be a fantastic tool for anyone who likes to blog while traveling. Giving readers the power to look at exactly where you were in the world when the post was written can lend it more authenticity.

Here's how it works.

First, you have to have a blogger account and use Blogger in Draft as your editing tool. When you launch a new post in Blogger in Draft, you'll see a small link that reads "add location."

Google notes that you can use the location editor to search, drag, click and zoom on a map to choose and save a location. Google will then try to label the location you choose using its reverse geocoder, which looks up a name for a point on the map. You also can edit the location name by clicking the blue location name text below the search field. When you publish your post, the geotag is displayed below your blog post as a link, which will open up Google Maps.

Very cool.

From now on, I will geotag all the posts I write for my personal music blog. That way, readers will easily be able to look up information about the concert venues I report from and see their exact location on the map.
