Blue Ants At CES Bluetooth Picnic

Posted by Fritz Nelson, Jan 9, 2009 02:18 AM

I know I said I didn't really care about more Bluetooth headsets, but it's always so much fun to see what Blue Ant is up to. Call me a hypocrite. We talked to Blue Ant about its latest technology, Q1, which combines improved noise suppression with the voice control capabilities it launched earlier this year. (Still looking for a Bluetooth headset that fits into those massive ear holes kids are sporting these days.)

Here's the video.

Blue Ant was a little coy about what it's done with its microphones, saying that the competition was trying its best to get at that information, and since the Q1 won’t be ready until the second quarter, it didn't want to reveal too much. But the idea is to take wind and noise coming from lots of different directions, and suppressing it more effectively.

The voice control was in Blue Ant's V1 product released earlier in 2008. It lets you not only make voice-command-driven calls, but also perform a variety of tasks via voice; it also talks to you, guiding you through the steps. You can even tell it to pair itself to your phone. Now, if it allowed for voice-based text messaging, that would be even better.
