Did Google Tip HTC And T-Mobile's Plans For The Magic?

Posted by Eric Zeman, Feb 23, 2009 05:05 PM

Last week's Mobile World Congress was a disappointment if you were looking for Android news. The one real interesting handset announced was HTC's Magic, which is only headed for Vodafone's European markets -- unless you believe in a slide presented by Google itself.

There's no doubt that I am a bit envious of Vodafone subscribers. They'll have first shot at HTC's second Android phone, the Magic. I mentioned last week that I think the Magic is a solid improvement on HTC's first effort with Android, the G1.

Apparently, during a recent presentation, Google showed a slide with T-Mobile branding on what appears to be the Magic.

T-Mobile, of course, is a world-wide brand that encompasses markets in Europe as well as in the United States through subsidiary T-Mobile USA. Merely showing a picture of a device with carrier branding on it does not guarantee that HTC is bringing the Magic to T-Mobile, but it certainly opens up the possibility.

This is surely welcome news for those thinking that perhaps HTC would perform its magic only with Vodafone.
