The 9 Types Of Power Problems
Well, I recently had a chance to chat with power expert Fred Miller over at Eaton, and he opened my eyes to all the various ways your power can fail. And bMighty has pulled all 9 into a unique slideshow that lays out each problem and the proper type of protection: "9 Power Problems That Can Unplug Your Business." We count down everything from "Total Loss Of Utility Power" (get yourself a UPS, duh) to "Harmonic Distortion" (this distortion of the normal waveform generally transmitted by nonlinear loads is no longer as much of a problem as it used to be because of better power supplies in the motors of household and industrial equipment. (But if this is a problem for your organization, you need an online UPS to filter it out.) There are seven other problems to watch out for, though -- I bet you never even thought about the issue of frequency variation in your power supply, did you? -- and you need to protect your company against all of them.
