Reports: Apple Netbook Due In Third Quarter

Posted by Mitch Wagner, Mar 9, 2009 02:29 PM

Take this one with a big grain of salt: Asian technology news site Digitimes is reporting that Wintek will supply touch panels for Apple's new netbook, which will ship the third quarter.

Digitimes attributes the report to the Chinese-language Commercial Times, saying Wintek "does not know what applications the new products are for."

Commercial Times has a mixed record predicting Apple products based on supply chain reports, according to MacRumors.com.

I'd love to see Apple develop a netbook. I want one for myself, as a Web tablet and e-book reader. I think it's inevitable Apple will come out with a netbook, based on the direction Apple and the entire tech industry is going, despite denials by Apple top brass. But don't take this report about Wintek as confirmation, it's really just a hint and a lot of speculation.
