CTIA: First Look At Palm Pre Emulator
Palm recently announced that it will provide an emulator for webOS on the Palm Pre that will allow Palm users to port their legacy apps from the old Garnet OS to webOS. This is a necessary step for Palm, and I was able to get a nice walk through on video.For anyone who has invested a lot of money in applications for the older Palm OS, the ability to port those apps to the new Pre is key. The emulator that will be available on the Pre lets users to do just that, and it's all pretty simple.
Applications can literally be dragged and dropped from one to the other, ensuring that enterprises that have invested in Palm applications can continue to take advantage of their investment.

The emulator runs as a separate "card" on webOS, which is how Palm describes the different applications. It worked amazingly fast, and offers you the opportunity to interact with the legacy Palm OS on the Pre.
Think of it in terms of what Apple did when it launched OS X. It allowed OS X machines to also run OS 9. This is the same concept, just on a smarphone.
