Native YouTube Uploader Now Part Of Android

Among the improvements in Android version 1.5 is new-found powers that will let Android users upload video directly to their YouTube Account.

This is one of those features that I expected to see as part of the original Android OS. Alas, Android 1.0 and 1.1 can't even record video, let alone distribute it anywhere.

That changes with 1.5. Android 1.5 adds a video-recording feature to Android handsets and will also have the ability to share those videos online.

According to the Official Google Mobile Blog, after recording some video, users just need to click "share" and can select to upload to YouTube. Users will be able to set the video as private or public. Google doesn't specify if users will be able to share videos form the client, or if they'll be able to do more advanced things such as embed the link or video into an email.

In addition to the YouTube client, better integration with Google's Picasa photo-sharing site will also be on board Android 1.5. That means more seamless uploads to Picasa, too.

There's still no word from T-Mobile on when exactly Android 1.5 will become available to G1 users, but it is rumored to be within the next few weeks.
