AT&T Clarifies GoPhone Plans For The iPhone 3GS, To Have 'Limited' Supply

Also, it looks like AT&T retail stores will have limited supplies of the iPhone 3GS at launch.Earlier today, AT&T tweeted the following: "@ATTNews FYI: AT&T will have limited iPhone 3G S in store 6/19. Preorder, though, for most certainty/convenience."
In other words, if you want an iPhone on launch day, you should have pre-ordered by June 13. If you pre-order now, you probably won't be able to get your hands on an iPhone June 19. Instead, it may take one or two weeks before yours becomes available. There is a chance that you can walk into an AT&T or Apple store on June 19 and manage to snag one, but it's not a certainty at all.

In order to combat a possibly damaging wave of negative news, AT&T wants to be clear on GoPhone plans for the iPhone.
According to an AT&T spokesperson, the bottom line is this: The original iPhone from 2007 was/is the only iPhone approved for GoPhone pre-paid service. The iPhone 3G was never qualified for this plan, and neither will the iPhone 3GS. If you think you can get away with registering the iPhone 3GS with your old GoPhone account, it's not going to work.
The full details regarding the iPhone 3GS and its GoPhone pre-paid plans can be read below:
iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update available on June 17 may impact the data service for certain GoPhone customers using either an Original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
AT&T GoPhone rate plans will not be approved for use with iPhone 3G S when the new device becomes available on June 19.
iPhone 3G Users Currently on a GoPhone Account:
- Neither the Pick Your Plan nor Pay As You Go rate plans are approved for use with iPhone 3G at this time.
- iPhone 3G customers on Pick Your Plan rate plans should call 866-499-7888 to learn more about their options.
- iPhone 3G customers on Pay As You Go rate plans should call 800-901-9878 to learn more about their options.
- If you are a Pick Your Plan Customer with the required unlimited Data Plan for iPhone, you should not experience any interruption in your data service due to downloading the iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update which will be available on June 17.
- If you are a Pick Your Plan Customer who does not currently have the required unlimited Data Plan for iPhone, you will experience an interruption in your data service. To avoid this interruption, you should call 866-499-7888 to have the required Data Plan for iPhone added to your service.
- Pay As You Go rate plans are not approved for AT&T iPhone customers.
If you are unsure of your rate plan, you can visit www.att.com/gophone and login under Account Management. Upon logging in, you will find account details.
