BlackBerry Tour Hitting Verizon July 12 For $200

Posted by Eric Zeman, Jun 30, 2009 09:10 AM

If you've been hankering for some BlackBerry Tour action from Verizon Wireless, it's time to get excited. The nation's largest carrier has launched pre-orders for the Tour, which will be in stores starting July 12. It will come in two versions: one with a camera, and one without.

If you've been putting off the purchase of a new BlackBerry, now is the time to act. The 9630 Tour is a powerful 'Berry, and it packs world-roaming capabilities. It was announced several weeks ago by Research In Motion, and both Verizon Wireless and Sprint acknowledged that they'd be offering the device to their customers "later this summer."

Turns out "later this summer" really meant July 12, at least as far as Verizon Wireless is concerned. If you're interested in the BlackBerry Tour, you can pre-order it starting today. It will cost you $200 after rebates with a new two-year agreement.

If you've forgotten the specs, here they are again. The Tour supports Verizon's EVDO Rev. A 3G network, and it also includes quad-band GSM/EDGE and 2100MHz HSDPA for 3G roaming in Europe. Sadly, the Tour doesn't include Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 2.0 is there, which supports mono and stereo headsets, handsfree devices and phone book access. It also has a 3.5mm headset jack for most stereo headphones. Lest we forget, it also has a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and video capture.

Speaking of the camera... The really good news is that the Tour will be offered both with and without a camera. This means if your business has strict rules governing cameras in the workplace, you'll still be able to take advantage of all the Tour has to offer.

You can pre-order the Tour right here.
