HTC Firestone Leaks
HTC has a big announcement tomorrow in London, but there haven't been a lot of details. Some think it is the HTC Hero, an Android powered device. It may be something else entirely, or a combination of things. We've got leaks of the HTC Firestone for you. Here is the rundown.HTC has a big announcement tomorrow in London, but there haven't been a lot of details. Some think it is the HTC Hero, an Android powered device. It may be something else entirely, or a combination of things. We've got leaks of the HTC Firestone for you. Here is the rundown.The::Unwired has some images of the device along with specs. It will run Windows 6.5, and from the screen shots, it looks like native 6.5, not 6.5 plus a lot of UI tweaks from HTC. HTC has been heavily customizing their Windows Mobile phones lately giving them a better browser and finger friendliness, reducing the need for a stylus, all of which is to keep up with the iPhone. We won't know until tomorrow, or perhaps even later, if HTC thinks 6.5 is good enough to go it alone or if it needs some of HTC's magic faire dust to spruce up the UI.
Whatever the UI, the hardware is nice, though not spectacular. It has a 600MHz Qualcomm processor. I've sort of been spoiled by the recent news on the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that starts at 1GHz. It is hard to get excited about a phone with anything less. Supporting the processor is 256MB of RAM and 512MB of storage ROM. You can use MicroSD cards to expand storage space for your music or video collection.

The Firestone is a quadband GSM phone with GPRS and EDGE support. UMTS (900MHz) and HSDPA (2100MHz) are also supported. Of course, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 and GPS are included.
It has a 3.6" touch screen (so it runs WinMo Professional) that supports an 800x400 resolution. It is rumored to have an 8MP camera.
The::Unwired thinks this could come out in August 2009, which is just 5-6 weeks away. We will hopefully know more after tomorrow's announcement. HTC could announce a whole slew of phones with WinMo 6.5, or announce shipment dates for upgrades for existing phones that support WinMo 6.5, like the HTC Touch Pro 2.
