Samsung adds to Verizon Wireless' inventory of Windows Mobile 6.5 devices with the new Omnia II. This media monster packs social networking powers, a five-megapixel camera, support for Divx and Xvid, and comes with a budget-friendly price of $200.

Samsung Omnia II

Samsung's Omnia II was first spotted in early October. This touch phone has a large, 3.7-inch display that packs a hefty WVGA resolution and marries it to a bright and power efficient AMOLED screen. If you're on the fence about Windows Mobile 6.5, the Omnia II sports TouchWiz 2.0, which is Samsung's home-brewed user interface. It offers a different way to interact with the device, and include a nifty 3D cube that users can interact with to access all their media content.

Speaking of media, this device is loaded with nearly every media capturing and playback capability you can think of. It has a five-megapixel camera that has autofocus and flash. It can capture video, has DNSe on board, and can even edit photos directly on the phone. It supports Divx and Xvid video formats for playing back movies. It also has the usual Windows Media Player. You want storage? You got it. The Samsung comes with 8GB installed, and can expand up to 16GB with a microSD card.

As far as connectivity goes, this device supports Verizon's 3G network in the U.S., as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. It doesn't support roaming in European countries as some of Verizon's other smartphones do.

The Omnia II will be pre-loaded with a bunch of software, including Microsoft Office Mobile (the press release doesn't indicate which version thereof). The Omnia II also has full access to all of Verizon's V CAST services, such as music, video, tones, song ID, visual voicemail and Navigator. The 3D TouchWiz cube offers direct access to social networks such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.

The Omnia II streets on December 2 for $200 after a $100 mail-in rebate. A new two-year contract is required.
