By Marianne Kolbasuk McGee | 02:58 PM ET, Dec 7, 2009

Non-profit organizations count on the giving, holiday spirit for end-of-year fundraising campaigns, but with the tight economy, generosity is being rationed by many people. Children's Hospital Boston is hoping a new text messaging campaign underway will drive smaller donations that will add up all year.

Will Consumers Pay-Out-Of-Pocket For Online Healthcare?

By Marianne Kolbasuk McGee | 04:03 PM ET, Oct 5, 2009

But if it's the middle of the night, what do you do?

Brightcove To Shutter The Free Version Of Its Online Video Service

By David Berlind | 10:13 AM ET, Nov 4, 2008

Apparently feeling a pinch (somewhere) and choosing to focus on the paid side of its video hosting and provisioning service, Brightcove issued a notification late last night that it would be shuttering the free versions of its services: The Brightcove Network (where video could be freely published YouTube-style) and Brightcove.TV (the distribution channel where videos published by Brightcove Network users as well as Brightcove's paying customers were featured online).

Firefox 3 Video Tour: Zooming Web Pages

By Mitch Wagner | 11:36 AM ET, Jun 30, 2008

The most useful new feature in Firefox 3 is that it lets you zoom whole Web pages, making them bigger and smaller to enhance usability. Previously, you could only resize the text, which made the overall page look lopsided and funny. We'll show you how to use this new feature -- it's pretty simple, which makes this a pretty short video.

By Mitch Wagner | 01:25 PM ET, Jun 25, 2008

We're kicking off a series of videos showing off the top features of Firefox 3. This time, we're taking a peek at the AwesomeBar, an updated version of the good old browser location bar, designed to make it easier for you to return to your favorite Web pages again and again. The Awesome Bar is controversial -- many people love it (including me). But others hate it, and for those people, we've got tips for how to disable the AwesomeBar.

What CIOs Say About Innovation And Web 2.0 Tools

By Marianne Kolbasuk McGee | 05:02 PM ET, May 21, 2008

There are plenty of barriers to innovation, including a fear of change, riskiness, cost, and more. But an important element in facilitating innovation is collaboration, and Web 2.0 tools that help people share ideas are helping some organizations to break down the barriers stunting innovation.

There's More To Serena's YouTube Success (1.17MM) Than Sex

By David Berlind | 11:54 AM ET, Apr 7, 2008

I have to admit that, at first, I didn't get it. Last month, at Mashup Camp in Silicon Valley (the next camp will be in June in NYC), Serena debuted its Just @#$% It!! What are they saying? video.(The video also is embedded below.) The video (now up to 1.17M views) features office workers telling each other to "mash it" as though the word "mash" is a dirty word. Each occurrence of it (and there are many) is bleeped out. By the time the librarian-esque female star of the video has "@#$%-ed" it, the bun in her hair isn't so tightly wrapped, there's a bit more flesh showing below the neckline, and...

By David Berlind | 12:12 PM ET, Apr 1, 2008

Are you coming to Energy Camp on April 28 where we'll be having an open conversation about green technology? If not, why not? Why do I ask? I was just checking the logs on our YouTube channel (TechWebTV) and noticed something unusual. Or maybe not.

Watch The Video Of My Interview With Fox News About Social Networks

By Mitch Wagner | 11:34 AM ET, Mar 14, 2008

Fox Business had me on this morning to introduce its viewers to social networking. I explained a little about what it is, who the big players are, and why it's popular. I talked about the differences between the three big companies, MySpace, Facebook, and Bebo, and why people like them. We're a social species (I said), and socnets replace the kind of face-to-face casual conversation we'd have if we all lived in the same small town and ran into each other on the streets every day. Watch the video below.

We caught up with Cory Doctorow at the ETech conference here in San Diego. Cory is co-author of the blog Boing Boing, a digital rights activist, science-fiction writer, and all-around brilliant thinker. We talked about some of the themes that emerged at ETech, including how we can reduce climate change without "putting on hair shirts," how to become great, the wireless wiretapping controversy, and more.
