The Chatter platform enables a private social network for the people that matter most--your team--while shielding your sensitive data from the prying eyes of everyone else. Existing Salesforce.com customers, in particular, might be a particularly good fit--Chatter is a Salesforce.com product. But Chatter is open to any organization and its users so long as they all share a single domain name (and have an email address on that domain). It's free--a price tag that fits even a shoestring budget.
