Nokia Denies Android Rumors
Category: Smartphones
Sunday morning, Tom's Hardware ran a speculative story about the possibility of Nokia developing an Android smartphone.
The story was based on a since-removed job posting at Nokia for "Principal Software Engineer, Embedded Linux Middleware." Such a posting would be appropriate for an Android project, but not exclusively for such a project.
Before too long, Nokia Media Relations head Doug Dawson put out a denial on Twitter, stating that the job posting "...is linked to our HERE Maps support for other platforms, including iOS and Android. Nothing more."
The Tom's Hardware story had considered the possibility that Nokia was working on a Maps app for Android, but the author missed the fact that Nokia's HERE Maps are already available for Android (and for iOS).
