To preview a photo, simply tap a thumbnail. Previews appear in the right pane on an iPad, and in a bottom pane on an iPhone or iPod Touch. From here you can use simple gestures--instead of complex menus or a plethora of icons--to inspect your photos. Simply swipe left or right to move back and forth through your thumbnails. Pinch for fine zoom control and double tap for maximum zoom. Tap multiple thumbnails for side-by-side previews for quick comparisons. Unique is being able to double tap a thumbnail to make iPhoto group similar-looking images. Photos with GPS location information have a Map tab between the Info and Comments tab. Interestingly, Apple is using OpenStreetMaps, not Google Maps, for iPhoto's mapping feature.
