Machine-To-Machine Party Is In Full Swing

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month, I went to a party for the Internet of Things Consortium, hosted by Jason Johnson, who is managing partner at Founders Den. Founders Den calls itself "...a shared office space and private club for experienced entrepreneurs and their friends." Johnson is working on a startup in the Internet of Things (also known as machine-to-machine, or M2M) space as well, but used the party to get people in the emerging industry talking to each other.

M2M is about devices which communicate with each other over the Internet, independent of direct human control. Smart meters are an example, as are many vending machines and industrial control systems. We wrote about M2M at the CTIA conference last spring as well.

As you can see in the video, everyone has their own concerns about the Internet of Things.
