Who Would We Miss? Microsoft, Yes. Apple? Sort Of. RIM, Definitely.

Imagine if one of the major technology companies disappeared without a trace. No more of its products, no more support. Which company would we miss and which would be no great loss? We asked ourselves this question about Microsoft, Google, Apple, IBM, RIM, and some other biggies. Here's what we think.

RIM: Very Big Deal.

The BlackBerry is different. The main reason it got so popular in business and government is that it's a highly secure system in which traffic is encrypted and all that Blackberry traffic goes through RIM's servers. Remember the great three-day Blackberry outage last year? There aren't enough iPhones available to handle the crush of industry trying to get something that works.
