Career Counsel

May 19, 1998

I'm currently a systems audit senior for a large manufacturing company. My background is three years of public accounting experience, two more years accounting experience and nearly four years of systems analyst/systems auditor (almost two years of each) experience. Certifications are CPA, CISA, and CNA (Novell Administrator). I'm in a unique position in that I get to work on both systems and financial audits keeping two sets of skills active. My question is, where do I go next? I don't know exactly what I want to do but I do know what I don't want to do: systems administration, writing code, cost accounting or the like don't really appeal to me. What career paths would let me take advantage of the experience I have in both of these areas? Would a graduate degree be of assis tance, and if so, what direction is best to take?

Financial systems liaison would be an obvious choice. So would working for a financially based software company such as Hyperion, SAP, or PeopleSoft, which would be very interested in both skill sets.

More Questions:
What path should I take to become a chief financial officer?

What career path should I take with my skills?
