I am a college student interested in pursuing a career as a communications analyst or telecommunications specialist. I really want a future position that would offer variety and interaction with others as well as cutting-edge technology. What is the growth outlook for this career, especially with the changing roles of voice and data? What background do you need to obtain an entry-level position, and what is the starting salary range for this position?

This industry sector has unlimited potential. With the telecom revolution well on its way, the industry is braced for breakthroughs in cable/telecom mergers, speech recognition and the introduction of Web TV. A degree in MIS is a minimum suggestion, but a concentration in a telecommunications program would really enhance your opportunities. Starting salaries range from $40,000 to $55,000, depending on geographic locations.

More Questions:
I'd like to become a consultant exposed to a wide range of technologies and industries, should I go with a Big Six firm?

I have almost 30 years experience in telecommunications. Is my expertise valuable in the IT world?
