I'm planning on entering a career in IT. My question is what are the skills that will make me valuable in the future? I see my path going in one of two ways, systems or programming. Which has more potential for growth in this industry? It seems like systems administration can lead to higher salaries with more and more experience. It also seems like you have to keep up with new technology. Currently I'm studying for MCSE certification but I'm also interested in different things.

There is no best choice here. It really comes down to what you're passionate about. The IT industry is embracing change at record pace--not just change in technology, but in processes and the kind of people that enter the playing field. You need to find your niche by trying different roles and becoming an expert in one.

More Questions:
My company was just outsourced, and the new management is not improving. Should I stick it out or look for a new job?

My move from sales to programming has left me at the bottom of the ladder, what can I do to advance myself?
