I recently graduated with a degree in sociology. I realized too late what I was really interested in, and it was too late to change my major. What types of entry-level jobs are available in the IT industry for people with little or no experience? Also, which would be more beneficial to me: Going for a master's degree in CS/MIS or getting into a certificate program at a community college? Do I really have to sit out of IS until I get the credentials and training? What can I do in the meantime to get into the industry?

Your entry-level options are limited. Get yourself in a certificate class as soon as you can. It will be your quickest entry point and most immediate gratification. Follow that later on with the master's--after you have had a couple of years of experience. Without the certificate experience, your options are slim.

More Questions:
My salary is low, what's the best way to approach my boss for a raise?

My company is implementing SAP. Will Cobol, IMS, and other mainframe skills disappear in the near future?
