I am a senior systems analyst for a large corporation. I have 14 years of experience with mainframe software. Our company is currently implementing SAP. I am 36 and my concern is that the mainframe skills I have will be obsolete in a few years. Do you think Cobol, IMS, IDMS, JCL, VSAM, CICS and other IBM mainframe skills will disappear in the near future? If so, where should I look?

In the near future, no! In the future, YES! You should do whatever you can to take an active role in the SAP implementation. It may the additional experience you need to make you more marketable.

More Questions:
My salary is low, what's the best way to approach my boss for a raise?

What types of entry-level jobs are available in the IT industry for people with little or no experience?
