I've been in sales and marketing positions for the past 10 years and have worked on my own this last year; I'm currently in the wireless communications industry. I would like to change careers and start my own company. I'd like to continue in sales and marketing, take the necessary classes on the side, and begin a company that employs network engineers and places them in contracts with companies needing network engineers, that I oversee. I'm having a difficult time researching this industry because the industry changes so much, is so vast, and doesn't have consistent standards yet. Do you see this as doable in this industry, and could you direct me on the classes that I should focus on as well as where I might find information that will help me start a company such as this?

It's hard to manage projects where there are questions you don't have answers to. I don't know how technical you are, but to project manage technical initiates without any technical experience isn't the best way to start, in my opinion. Hire a senior project manager to lead the network engineers that are working on the engagement and spend your time with what you're good at--selling and marketing new contracts to companies. As far as starting a company goes, the best way is to contact people you know in the industry who you know share real-life experiences around the challenges of running a business. Use the 10 years of experience and relationships to educate yourself.
