I've put together what I think is a pretty impressive resumé, but I'm not having much luck. I've been in the IT/telecommunications industry in one form or another for 25 years. I'm 55, but not dead; I've been with the same company for 30+ years and they don't think I'm dead. I am looking for a new opportunity. I talk with companies and/or recruiters on the telephone and they are all excited about my experience and accomplishments, they ask for a resumé, I send it and then nothing happens. I don't think I'm priced out of the market, but I don't get any results. I've asked some peers to give me feedback on the resuméand the feedback has always been positive. Would it be safe to assume that because I've been with one company so long, that it this is the turn-off?

In today's marketplace, it's likely that companies will initially turn away from individuals who have invested their entire career in one company. Since the technology marketplace moves at a rapid pace, most people spend pockets of time in each company, moving at least six or seven times throughout their careers. However, you should not sit tight and wait for a response. My suggestion is that you take the initiative to meet with recruiters and introduce yourself. Secondly, stay within your current industry; this will add leverage to your marketability. And lastly, actively network yourself.
