I have four years of experience as a network and system administrator, with increased level of responsibility. I have also passed two Microsoft Certification exams. I moved to the United States last year to join my wife. Since her program will take at least six years, I would like to continue my IT career in the U.S. My main problem is that I need to convince an employer to file an application for me for a change of visa status from F2 (student spouse) to H1B (working visa). Some employers who have called me for interviews do not understand that I cannot get an H1B visa without their assistance. How should I approach potential employers?

I understand your frustration; you are not alone. Your best bet, initially, will be to contact consulting organizations first. More often than not, they have handled sponsorship issues in the past and will be willing to entertain your candidacy. This may be your "entry-way" into employment. On several occasions, candidates who need sponsorship have found permanent employment opportunities on extended projects with a client. Second, you should contact the human resources departments of companies that interest you and ask if they sponsor potential employees. That way, you will know up-front if they have faced sponsorship issues.

More Questions:
Are there companies willing to hire experienced managers and train them in technical areas?

Where should I concentrate my effort given my goal to be a CIO for a small to medium-sized company?
