I am a project manager for a large telecom provider. I have 13 years of experience in IS/IT starting with word processing, computer operations, telecommunications and data communications, Software Development, Project Management and managing project managers doing hardware and software integration projects. I am currently pursuing a bachelors in communications (journalism) just to get some formal education on my resumé. I can continue to work for my current company with a career prospective of becoming a director of IS but with my background and experience, am I moving in the right direction? Or should I pursue a different degree (i.e.: business or technical)?

If you intend to stay within IT, you should absolutely couple your experience with a degree in computer science, IS management, or business management. This will show your commitment and dedication to your career and current aspirations.

More Questions:
What can I do to advance into a VP position, it seems my company has no room at the top?

Should I move away from my VP position in a startup company?
