I recently completed my MBA in business management and have been a business manager for 10 years. Over the last year, I've acquired sort of an obsession with learning more about the Internet (both the business and technical sides). I'm taking an introduction class to Visual Basic 5.0 and may later enroll in an Internet Technology certificate program. My dilemma is that I'm looking to change careers and get into the IT field, but I'm confused as to what type of careers are out there that can best marry all of my present experience (with my yet to be learned knowledge) Can you point me in the direction?

Although the trend is to "jump on the technology bandwagon," you're right to take a step back and consider your realistic options before moving forward. Considering your tenure in the management arena, it's unlikely that an entry-level technology position will meet your compensation requirements. There are two schools of thought: Are there opportunities within your current company where you can leverage your management/project management skills and "take on" a technology project? If not, you may consider looking to companies that have internal consulting groups. Most times, companies like to cross business and core technology skills in these groups. You may find your management experience coupled with your MBA may open the door for you in this capacity. They may also be will to train you in technology.
