I've been working in the data processing department for the Oklahoma Military department (full-time National Guard) for more than 14 years. I've done everything from computer operations to programming to system administration. I'm getting ready to leave the military side of my career. My education includes a bachelor of science degree with a minor in computer science, and many specific courses in Unix, Novell and Windows NT. I have also managed a Cisco router for the National Guard's WAN. I'm a jack of all trades, but a master on none. What type job definition should I be looking for: systems analyst, system administrator, consultant? Or is there something else I should consider?

All of the above! The challenge is to get in front of prospective employers and draw on your experience in the military to scenarios in the private sector. The good news is that many companies are now viewing the military experience as a real plus.

More Questions:
Can I double my salary when I graduate, or will my present low salary hold me back?

I've been thinking about becoming certified as a SAP and/or Oracle Developer because the hourly rates are higher. Is that a correct assessment?
