I am 28, a computer-science graduate with five years in the IT industry and experienced in both sales and development. I relocated 10 months ago to work in a foreign country on a work visa as a Web developer. But there's simply not enough work to keep me busy. Should I stay on and take the free time to upgrade myself and wait for work to come? I am more people-oriented and cannot sit at my desk all day. But I'm also interested in the Web technology and in the long run, I aspire to be in management. What kind of jobs should I be looking for to meet these two interests?

You experience is perfect for Internet IPOs or Net companies that need someone who can bridge the technology and the business together. Pre- or post-sales engineering is perfect for you. So is application engineer. These roles are designed for skill sets like yours.

How can I branch out of tech support into systems integration and networking?

I've been at a company for 17 years but I will be losing my job soon. What are my chances of maintaing my salary?
