CES 2012: Peek At TV's Future

Highlights from the stunning wall of big screens at CES 2012 include no-glasses-required 3D TVs and displays as thin as half an inch.

You can never be too thin or too rich...the Duchess of Windsor may have said it, but LG's large screen OLED TVs make it a vivid reality. The fully saturated colors and superfast response rates make OLEDs the perfect technology for displays of any size--if you can afford them. LG showed off its 55 inch proof of concept display by showing 3D like you've never seen it, particularly through passive glasses. The display is 4K ultradef, and trust us, no picture we could show you here does the technology justice.

But just as amazing as the picture is the thickness of the display. At just 4 millimeters, the display is so thin that the electronics to run it must be in housed in a separate piece of equipment (such as the stand or a separate box.)
