Check Out These Open-Source Web Sites

Here's a list of Web sites that are useful and interesting for businesses looking to begin or expand their use of open-source software.

Sourceforge is the pre-eminent resource for open-source developers and includes a directory of open-source software that's in development.

Open Source Web Design is a community of designers and site owners that share free Web-design templates as well as Web-design information.

The full text of Open Sources: Voices From The Open Source Revolution, an O'Reilly book chronicling the history and impact of open source, can be found at this site.

Resources for Researchers is a site that contains a bibliography, news and opinion sources, and links for open-source software researchers.

CinePaint is free open-source painting and retouching software primarily used for motion-picture frame-by-frame retouching and dust-busting. It has been used on many feature films, including The Last Samurai, where it was used to add flying arrows. CinePaint is different from other painting tools because it supports deep-color-depth image formats up to 32 bits per channel deep. In comparison, GIMP is limited to 8 bits and Photoshop to 16 bits.
