Cisco Systems on Wednesday said it will acquire SpansLogic and integrate the company into its Datacenter Business Unit .
Privately-held SpansLogic designs semiconductors to increase network packet processing speeds. The semiconductor firm, which has 14 employees, will be merged with Cisco's DCBU operation and report to Tom Edsall, VP of the unit.
"With SpansLogic, Cisco will be able to improve overall traffic efficiency and throughput across the network," said Edsall in a statement. "It is imperative that the network be tightly integrated with very high-speed processing capabilities eliminating bottlenecks." Citing rapidly-multiplying Ethernet speed gains, Cisco indicated its switch platforms will reach new levels of efficiency by embedding SpansLogic products into its platforms.
Founded in 2004, SpansLogic Cisco has been a customer of the company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
