Apple's VIP Inbox isn't new, but it's a great solution for iOS users who don't want to switch mobile email apps. VIP Inbox, a feature in Mail for iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion, works similarly to Google's new Mail offering, except that you select the VIPs in your inbox. To set up VIP Inbox, open your Mail app and hit the icon of the blue circle with white right-facing arrow. Then tap "Add VIP," and you'll be taken to your Contacts list.

Once your VIP list is set up, the next time you receive a message from a VIP contact your phone will make a unique indicator alert and highlight the message in a separate VIP inbox. The feature not only filters new messages, but it will also dig through old messages and segregate past VIP correspondence.

re: 10 Tools To Beat Email Overload
Tools and programs are great at helping to combat email overload.

But the best way is to send less and receive fewer.

A better way to manage email newsletter subscription

I think that you might be interested in beta testing our new project (our tagline is "Your inbox will thank you" ...).

With a friend, I am working on this project whose goal is to provide a way for people to better manage their email newsletter subscriptions. Closetoshop generates a unique email address for each subscription, and will send you a digest containing all of your newsletters once a day.

Your inbox won't be overloaded anymore, you avoid the frequent distraction of new mail arriving during the day, and you can easily put a stop to unwanted messages.

Just take a look at (you can create an free account).

Email is NOT dying
This reminds me of an article from a year ago saying that email was dead, that the current generation was all about IMs and so email was on the verge of being extinct. I think the author failed to grasp the importance of email to business, the information that needs to be conveyed in "letter" format and threads... or stacks. I'm going to have to try out some of these email managers... anything to bring a little sanity!
