Google's 10 Best Gags, Pranks And Easter Eggs

The search giant knows a good laugh when it sees one. Here are 10 great examples of Google's goofy side.

Google was definitely ahead of that whole talking goat meme. Google Translate for Animals delves into Dr. Dolittle territory by allowing us to decipher barks, meows, moos, growls and other utterances from our non-human friends. And since it's a mobile app, you can bring Translate for Animals to wherever an animal is making noise -- backyard, barnyard, savannah or forest. Google says it worked closely with leading language synthesis mavens and "animal cognitive linguistics" experts to develop this groundbreaking app. And what if your pet's thoughts turn out to be, well, a bit dull-witted? Google recommends translating animals "higher up in the food chain" -- think cats, not hamsters -- for more enlightening banter. Sorry, iPhone users, Translate for Animals is Android only.

re: Google's 10 Best Gags, Pranks And Easter Eggs
So, the Ceasar Chavez thing on Easter was a prank? I'll bet that cratered their strong sense of loyatly amoung 2 billion Christians worldwide. What brain dead fool thought that was funny? BING/Microsoft must be loving the sudden surge in Google defections. Very bad mistake...long term ramifications.

re: Google's 10 Best Gags, Pranks And Easter Eggs
By doing all these pranks and showing that it really has a sense of humor, Google has very cleverly created a strong loyalty from its users, which competitors are hard-pressed to beat. How many people feel as positively about the Microsoft brand as they do about Google? Plus, this kind of humor is visibly engrained in the company's culture and the people they hire. You can't just decide from one day to the next, 'ok, let's start being funny over here at X company.' It just wouldn't work.

Google seems to have incorporated animals on a number of occasions in these pranks -- a translating app, and app that allows pets to text their owners, etc. Since many of us love our pets, I think this allows Google to better connect with the public, even if it is only in a jovial manner.
