I abandoned my Hotmail account in 2005. Rather than try to resurrect that login, I figured it was time for a fresh start. Microsoft, as it should, adds layers of security protection here and elsewhere in SkyDrive. In this case, it was a simple verification email: "Call us overprotective, but we need to verify that [Email Address] is yours." Once you complete that verification, you're done.
