CVS Corp. has decided to implement an IP-based virtual private network for 4,000 of its stores. Under a multimillion-dollar contract with AT&T, CVS will upgrade its AT&T managed data services to the carrier's IP-Enabled Frame Relay Service, which will provide the network transport for CVS's new VPN. The transition to a virtual private network with disaster-recovery capabilities will be part of the project's first phase, to be completed by November. In the second phase, CVS and AT&T will increase the capacity of the network to support new applications.
