Inside The MIT Media Lab Where Technology Can Sense Emotions

MIT researchers demonstrate what they are trying to do to re-invent how media is made. Watch the video to see how machines are going to read your emotions better than humans can, and how it may be able to help autism patients.

BYTE went to check out the MIT Media Lab to find out how researchers are making machines more sensitive. We talked to Daniel McDuff and Yadid Ayzenberg, researchers with the Affective Computing group.

McDuff is working to crack the algorithm for a smile. He talked to us about how his research is helping content makers understand what makes viewers laugh and how it might be used for treating Autism patients. Ayzenberg had a sensor attached to his arm and an Android phone with a program that could tell if an email or event made him anxious or excited.
