Developers Want Bots To Create Own Language

Researchers in Italy are trying to encourage robots to develop their own language based on their own experiences.

Researchers in Italy are trying to encourage robots to develop their own language based on their own experiences.

Members of a team at the Institute of Cognitive Science and Technology believe that Sony's AIBO AIBO dogs have shown promise that it can be done, according to a report in scenta, a British science, engineering and technology news site.

Developers use Embedded Communicating Agents to program the dogs so they can recognize stimulus through sensors, identify different objects and interact with objects on their own. Then they create sounds for identifying the objects and communicating information about their surroundings.

Robotics experts, with the ECAgents Project believe the process is close to the way humans actually learn language and therefore likely to be more successful than programming a robot with adult language.
