Lou Bertin

Lou BertinL ou Bertin is a contributor to InformationWeek Online and is a principal at Bertin & Co., an organization he founded in 1999. He formerly was managing editor/industry at InformationWeek, a founding editor at Computer Reseller News, and a senior vice president at Fleishman-Hillard in Washington, D.C., where he led government relations efforts on behalf of a variety of technology companies and consortia. He also was a vice-president at Burson-Marsteller in New York. He is a frequent speaker at industry events and is a commentator on CMP Media's TechWeb multimedia online service. Richard Florida

Richard FloridaR ichard Florida is founder and director of the Software Industry Center at Carnegie Mellon University, where he is the Heinz Professor of Regional Economic Development; he also has been a visiting professor at Harvard and MIT. He is working on a book that explores changes in the workplace, lifestyles, and communities that will be with us "after the new economy." He consults frequently with companies on workplace and organizational design issues, and with nations and regions on economic strategy and talent attraction. Michael Hammer

Michael HammerM ichael Hammer is president of Hammer and Co. Inc. and a former professor of computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the author of numerous articles and of three books: Reengineering the Corporation: A Manifesto for Business Revolution (HarperBusiness, 1993); The Reengineering Revolution: A Handbook (HarperBusiness, 1995); and his latest book, Beyond Reengineering: How the Process-Centered Organization is Changing Our Work and Our Lives (HarperBusiness, 1996). Judith S. Hurwitz

Judith S. HurwitzJ udith S. Hurwitz is president and CEO of Hurwitz Group Inc., a consulting and research firm. Hurwitz Group's recently developed metrics, called return on OpportunityTM, go beyond traditional ROI measurements by assessing top-line benefits associated with technology investments. She is a columnist for InformationWeek and Enterprise Development and a frequent keynote speaker at major industry events, including Comdex, Component Directions, and eBusiness World. She was named one of the most intriguing women in Boston by Boston Magazine in 1997 and one of the top 100 women in computing in 1996 by BusinessWeek magazine. Leon A. Kappelman

Leon A. KappelmanL eon A. Kappelman is director of the Information Systems Research Center, associate professor of Business Computer Information Systems, and associate director of the Center for Quality and Productivity in the College of Business Administration at the University of North Texas. He has conducted seminars and given presentations in North America, Europe, and Asia, and written extensively His professional expertise includes the strategic use of technology, including E-commerce and E-business, metrics development, the management of information assets, information systems development and maintenance, management of change and technology transfer, and high-tech and public policy matters such as E-government, digital divide, privacy, security, and software quality. Larry Olson

Larry OlsonL arry Olson is a principal at aligne inc., a strategic technology management practice and a Safeguard Scientifics company. Most recently, Olson was interim CTO for TechSpace, an incubator for early-stage technology companies. He also was New York-Presbyterian Hospital System's chief negotiator in outsourcing the hospital's IT organization, and provided interim CIO functions. Before joining aligne, Olson was the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's first CIO and the principal architect of the Link-to-Learn educational technology program, which was selected the "best practice in the nation" in 1997. Before that, he served as Pennsylvania's Deputy State Treasurer and the chief management officer for the Department of Public Welfare, the largest state agency in the U.S. He also is a registered architect in Texas. Robert M. Rubin

Prior to joining VMC, he was senior VP and CIO for Elf Atochem North America, a $2 billion diversified chemical company, where he initiated E-business planning and was responsible for information technology, reengineering, and administrative functions such as payroll and accounts payable. He's a past president of the Society for Information Management (SIM), the 2,700-member international information systems organization, and serves on the IT Advisory Council to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the advisory board of InformationWeek magazine. Robert K. Weiler
