June 4, 1999 Home Pages With A Smile Get the feeling your E-commerce site just isn't warm and friendly enough to generate business? Think it lacks a certain "human" quality? Kona Systems Inc. is betting that enough businesses will reply "yes." Kona now offers WebHeads, a Web-page video technology that will let companies have a live person's face greet Web-site visitors in real time. Kona president C.J. Villa says the product is best suited now for low-volume Web pages, such as small-company sites, or specific portions of large-company sites that are aimed at qualified viewers. At a bank site, for example, a live person's face could greet customers who qualify for loans of $1 million or more. The technology can be viewed by accessing the Kona Systems site at www.konasys.com, but Villa says a few kinks need to be worked out. For instance, he says visitors trying to access the site from a company computer might have access blocked by their company's firewall, and users of Macintosh machines may experience difficulty because of a lack of compatibility with Java version 1.1, which was used to build WebHeads. WebHeads also uses JavaScript and the C programming language. Villa, whose company is based in Kailuna-Kona, Hawaii, says he'll be visiting San Francisco next week to help stir up interest in Kona's technology--both from prospective customers and prospective investors. |
